Cheap Trademarks.

Does anyone know where you can have cheap trademarks done for band names/logos? I'm waiting on my tax return so that I could have mine trademarked. Why in the fuck don't they pass a law so that the poor mans copyright legally holds up in court? (Not expecting an actual reply to that question).

2. unless you're a sucking mad money dicks band like Cannibal Corpse or something, why would you spend money to trademark a death/gore/whatever logo?

I'm having trouble finding band members and I want to have it trademarked so that no-one else would be able to take my name before I have time to do anything with it. I don't know what's going on these days, people don't want to start bands/projects anymore. With all this flooding of one-man projects popping up all over in the Goregrind scene who needs to form bands anymore? It's really fucking annoying that it is this hard to find band members. Back a few years ago people were joining bands like crazy. Not anymore, what the fuck!

The truth of the matter is this, even if you have a band and you post a name, logo, whatever over the internet via Myspace, facebook, etc. just because you have a date or something that ties you to the name at an earlier time than the other band, if they have it trademarked you WILL be forced to change your name by law or be fined etc. Anyone can laugh or think it's dumb to want and get a name trademarked for a Goregrind band but I'm going to make sure that this bullshit doesn't happen to me.

Also, only reason for trademark would be so that no one else can use the same band name. I think that people are getting the reason I have behind this mixed up. If I make any albums etc. I would actually encourage people to download/burn/dub my shit/give copies to their friends. I believe in free music and anti-music business. Fuck any asshole that thinks downloading is gay, IT FUCKING KICKS ASS!!! I've always had an idea to make an album and give that shit away, on the insert it would have something to the effect of "This our first last and only recording is limited to __ copies and if you have one you're a lucky fuck". I personally feel that if someone likes my shit, thinks it's cool and becomes a fan, is payment enough for me. I certainly would be pissed off at another band if they used the same name as another band I liked! It's about respect, and these new pansy ass bitches listening to Gore to be cool.....They got none! Keep it underground/keep it DIY and anyone can fuck off by trying to make big money off of it!

Yeh i agree when you asked me about trademarking i was like what ? i run a whole label and everything and never worry about someone taken your name.. i think your thinking of a different genre here man like rap or rock or some other shit. i dont think ive ever heard of anyway taken someone Goregrind name for a band or label or anything else... so i think you should be good tell you the truth nine times out of ten your band or project probley wont get that far unless your like Stoma or something so it doesnt really matter anyway man trust me i have a label and it took at least a year for anything to even start to happen.

Thanks GreekFire for putting my mind at ease. I would love for my project to get as far as Stoma or another band of that nature, even if my band were to get that far I would stay true to the DIY ideal for fucking sure though man. If my band would get to play a few shows/fests, I would be honored and happy to play for no money at all dude. Music is about having a good time and people getting enjoyment from the music and becoming fans for me bro. Only reason though I'm holding out until I find more band mates is because I don't want to be another One-Man Gore Project, personally I fucking hate Drum Programming. I want the band to be fucking dirty, filthy, smutty, gross-out GORE for sure. There is a slight hint of elaborateness that I have in mind for the sound, and very original at best. It's a secret until we go public with the band. I'm looking for members, just PM and I'll leave a prompt reply back.

I wouldnt worry about it too much,though. but shit can happen. my cousin old band was getting pretty big , and were going by the name ''facedown''.another band from a different country told them to cease and desist and they had to legally change the name to thrownaside.

It's always good to be on the safe side, especially when you have a fucking really bad ass name. Someone else can force you to change it if you don't have it trademarked and they do. It's always good to take precautions so you don't end up getting your name stolen from you. Once I get my trademark and oust the name publicly I'll be glad that I had it legalized so this shit doesn't happen to me. P.S. @ procto - Murphy's Fucking Law dude. you are absolutely right, shit happens, but I'll make sure it doesn't happen to me.

People who steal other bands' names are actually looked down upon, from what I've seen.
